I think that the society will be terrified of others coming out of the woodwork. Better still a class action costing serious $$$ and complete destruction of any reputation or goodwill remaining. If this gathers momentum it could take the whole edifice with it. How appropriate that what brings them down is a sleazy shameful cover-up. Ultimate degradation within Jehofah's "clean" organisation.

In terms of religion is less really more?
by nugget inwhen i was growing up as a witness i remember hearing news about the ever expanding preaching work.
the only number that went down was the number of annointed but over time the organisation seems to say they are growing whilst in fact they are shrinking.. district conventions were 4 days (fewer than the 7 days early on but still a challenge.
) these have been reduced to 3 days.

Well said Nugg. You see this sort of thing with businesses, they get obsessed with cost cutting and efficiency and forget that unless they get out there and do something the next thing is the for sale sign hanging on the door.

Planning an Escape: Truth Triumphs Over Lies!
by 00DAD inoften during wt/book studies and/or public talks i would be following along and note little discrepancies and inconsistencies.
perhaps it was a scripture that didn't really support the point being asserted in the paragraph or maybe it was an illustration that sounded good but wasn't completely parallel or maybe it was a line of reasoning that wasn't as conclusive or solid as the speaker/elder/co/wt publication made it out to be.
or maybe it was the excessive use of weasel words like, "evidently," "perhaps," "must have" and so on.

I had a thirty year nightmare with smoking. I was shunned three times as a result. I reckon the biggest problem was some weird compulsion linked to the taboo nature of smoking in the "troof". I sincerely tried all the approved ways of freeing my self from the habit and the guilt I felt.
Then I got some CBT from the Doc and was able to completly leave it behind. I hated the constant deception and schoolboy secrecy it involved and the risk to health it represented.
I remember the WT article coming out in '73 and the cold shiver it gave me. I think I was destined to have a problem with it as soon as that self righteous crap was released. I think my freedom from the habit came as I discarded the power of all the false junk I had been subjected to for all those years. Ironically as I freed myself of residual belief so the power of the addiction faded.
I am pleased to be free from addiction to smoking now but if there was a good reason to start again it iwould be because the WT banned it.

1914 vs 1874- evidence of dishonesty in the Watchtower Mags
by WildeLover ini have a query about 1874/1914 for the beginning of the lord's presence.. .
in the literature, this is what was said-->.
when a foreign head of state visits a country, the dates of his presence there are generally announced.

Thank you all who contributed to this research. This organisation has more spin than the entire political PR machine of the UK and the USA combined. I thought I was familiar with all the steaming bullsh*t that the society has served up but the 1943 - 1914 switcharoo takes the biscuit.
My parents were baptised in 1950 and i am sure they did not have a clue. To me the way they slip in the admissions obscurely into publications and then never refer to them again is another weaselly way of misleading the loyal following. What would happen if this information, available to anyone with WTlib, was woven in to a public talk or meeting item?
It is all there for anyone who has curiosity and even a tinge of critical thinking. Well done!

Does Jah protect G.B.?
by criticalwitness ini ask purely out of curiosity not to provoke imply or incite anything.
but when you consider how the pope has to ride around in a bullet proof golf cart lol and considering how many maby thousands of people (apostates) theyve pissed off over the years it takes some pretty big ga-hoe-nads to do this purposefully with no security if you really didnt believe some god was protecting you.
and ive seen gb walk around aimlously around bethel henchel swingel schroder without a care in the world?

They are mega important - to themselves. No self respecting apostate or terrorist would waste their energy on them. They don't need protection they are self-important not genuinely important.

Have You Ever Gone To Meetings While Under The Influence Of Booze Or Drugs?
by minimus ini had an italian elder friend that regularly drank his wine (daily) and it was obvious that on some thursday or tuesday evenings, he was clearly under the influence of alcohol.
quite often, we would have a 3:00 sunday afternoon elder's meeting and once again, i could tell he had been drinking.. nobody ever brought it up but i knew him well and he loved his vino and martinis!.
we had a number of people on meds that would either act like zombies at the meetings or cry or get aggressive.

You have reminded me. When I was an elder we had some sort of training school one christmas in the evening on the last working day before the holiday.
Well, some of the lads from work and I went out and got sh*t faced at lunch time and I was still off my head when I had to suit up, breathe in and attend this meeting. Things went reasonably well until I was asked to read a scripture.
I could see three copies of the bloody page floating around. I must have slurred the whole thing. I got away with it though. God's holy spirit must have been looking the other way.
